How to Get More Out of Your Tires

There's more to tires than their status as the things that help your car move from point A to point B. They're also essential safety features. Poor tires will have a harder time getting traction and your driver-assist functions won't work as efficiently.

Checking for Tire Problems

Check your tire tread depth with a penny to see if your tires are still in good shape. Insert a coin head-first into the tread. If the top of Lincoln's head is visible, it's time to shop for new tires.

If you notice strange wear patterns like more wear on the inside or outside of your tires or you notice that your tires are wearing down too fast, it could be a sign of another problem with tire pressure or wheel alignment.

Getting the Most Out of Your Tires

  1. Check tire pressure monthly
  2. Get a tire rotation roughly once a year (whenever you get an oil change)
  3. Get a wheel alignment about once a year
